Ingredients

Here are the following ingredients:

Sweet Filipino Spaghetti Sauce

  • 3 tbsp (45 mL) canola oil
  • 3 lb (1.5 kg) Ground Beef (Medium)
  • 1 lb (500 g) all-beef hot dogs, sliced
  • 8 oz (250 g) finely chopped onion, about 2 cups (500 mL)
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) minced garlic
  • 6 cups (1.5 L) marinara sauce
  • 2 cups (500 mL) banana ketchup
  • 2 cups (500 mL) beef stock (no salt added)
  • 1 cup (250 mL) evaporated milk
  • 3 tbsp (45 mL) brown sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) kosher salt
  • ½ tsp (2 mL) freshly ground black pepper

Service

  • 4 lb (2 kg) spaghetti, blanched
  • 8 oz (250 g) shredded Cheddar cheese, about 2 cups (500 mL)
  • Sprigs fresh parsley

Preparation

  1. Sweet Filipino Spaghetti Sauce: Heat oil in large saucepan set over medium-high heat. Cook beef until browned. Drain off fat.
  2. In the same saucepan set over medium heat, add hot dogs, onion and garlic. Cook until onion has softened.
  3. Add marinara sauce, banana ketchup, beef stock, evaporated milk, brown sugar, salt and pepper; bring to a boil. Simmer, partially covered, for 45 to 60 minutes or until flavourful and sauce has thickened. Adjust seasoning as needed.  Cool, cover and refrigerate or hold for service.

Service

  1. Add ¾ cup (175 mL) Sweet Filipino Spaghetti Sauce to skillet; bring to a boil. Add a splash of water or stock to loosen, if needed.  Add 1½ cups (375 mL) blanched spaghetti.
  2. Cook, tossing often, until heated through and sauce clings to pasta.
  3. Plate spaghetti and top with 2 tbsp (30 mL) shredded cheese. Garnish with parsley sprig.
