Pepperoni Pizza Beef Burger

This kid-friendly burger will get rave reviews from the whole family. You can change up the flavours by switching up the toppings–for example, for a Hawaiian pizza-inspired burger, substitute ham or bacon for the pepperoni and add a grilled pineapple ring.

Method

Follow these cooking methods/directions:

  1. Stack pepperoni slices into small towers and cut crosswise to create thin matchsticks. Toss with mozzarella in a medium bowl; set aside.

  2. Make a thumbprint depression in centre of each burger (to prevent puffing while grilling). Grill burgers on oiled grill in a closed preheated barbecue over medium-high heat (400°F/200°C) for 8 minutes, turning twice.

  3. Spread pizza sauce over burgers and top with pepperoni-mozzarella mixture. Grill for 4 to 6 minutes longer for ¾ inch (2 cm) thick burgers or until a digital instant-read thermometer inserted sideways into centre of each burger reads 160°F (71°C), cheese has melted and pepperoni is crisp.

  4. Meanwhile, grill buns, cut sides down, on barbecue for 30 to 60 seconds or until well-marked and toasted. Place grilled burgers in toasted buns.
