Meaty beef Back Ribs are a great alternative to traditional pork ribs, and perfect for a kids menu. The seasoning is light and mild, and ribs are slathered with sweet barbecue sauce after being slow roasted. The result is a sticky and tangy bite that’s tender, flavourful and easy to eat.
Ingredients
Here are the following ingredients:
- 2 tsp (10 mL) brown sugar
- 2 tsp (10 mL) dry mustard powder
- 2 tsp (10 mL) garlic powder
- 2 tsp (10 mL) onion powder
- 2 tsp (10 mL) kosher salt
- 1 tsp (5 mL) freshly ground black pepper
- 2 Back Ribs, full 7-bone rack and about 5 lb (2.2 kg) each
Service
- 2¼ cups (550 mL) sweet barbecue sauce
Preparation
- Mix brown sugar, mustard powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.
- Cut each rack into one-bone portions; arrange in a shallow hotel pan. Sprinkle over ribs to coat evenly. Cover tightly with foil.
- Cook, in conventional oven at 250°F (120°C), for 2½ to 3 hours or until meat is fork tender. Cool, cover and refrigerate.
Service
- Brush one rib with 1 tbsp (15 mL) barbecue sauce. Warm on grill or under broiler until heated through and caramelized around the edges.
- Brush with an additional 1 tbsp (15 mL) barbecue sauce before removing from heat.
Chef's Tip
Serve this with two to three sides from the kids’ menu, such as fries, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, crudité and dip, corn, steamed broccoli, coleslaw or side salad.
Substitute barbecue sauce with teriyaki, sweet and sour or honey-garlic sauce for an Asian-inspired kid’s meal. Serve with steamed rice and broccoli.
